We at BEST believe that parents and families are a child’s first and most important teachers.

We also know that raising a child with special needs can be emotional and draining – especially during the first years when you are accepting a diagnosis and/or meeting extensive medical needs.

And many of us never know a person with a visual impairment or blindness before being entrusted with raising one – so how do we get the necessary information and support needed in raising a child with a sensory loss like vision?

Books and websites are full of strategies to boost the development and future academic success of typically developing children.  How do we do the same for our visually impaired children?

Connecting with other families striving to meet the same challenges can bring much needed support to an often arduous journey.

You are not alone!  Through our BEST Together program, we bring caregivers of children with visual impairment together! Services include:

  • BEST Together Events – parents across Tennessee can exchange stories and experience with one another in a safe and supportive environment (both in-person and virtual options available)
  • BEST Webinars and Podcast – we invite the insight of professionals, expert educators and those with lived experiences from around the country to speak on topics relevant to children and families within the blind and visually-impaired community
  • BEST Monthly Newsletter – we highlight research, resources, events and other information of use to our families
