Certified Teachers of the Visually Impaired (CTVI)

Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS)

BEST is always looking for experienced COMS in Tennessee! Whether seeking full-time, part-time or a contract position, if you are an O&M Specialist, please inquire. Working as a member of BEST’s O&M team, you will work to meet the orientation and mobility needs of children with low vision or blindness, ages birth-5, in their home/community environment or virtually.

Developmental Therapist (DT) – Early Interventionist of the Visually Impaired (EIVI)

As a Developmental Therapist for BEST, you will have the opportunity to work in home or community environments supporting families of children with a wide range of diagnoses or disabilities. You will have the flexibility to set your own schedule and the chance to work with an amazing and growing team of therapists. As our mission is to ensure children with vision impairments have access to specialized services and knowledgeable providers, we require all of our DT’s to undergo vision-specific training (paid for by BEST) after which you will become an EIVI. In this training you will achieve certification and specific knowledge about how vision loss and impairments impact the overall development of babies, toddlers and preschoolers.

Responsibilities of this position include:

– Coach and support families of children (ages 0-5) with developmental delays or disabilities in their homes, childcare center, or any other environment natural to the child using the FGRBI intervention model

– Collaborate with service coordinators, teachers, and other members on the child’s team to achieve optimal outcomes for the child and family

– Record and maintain documentation of services and contacts within set timelines

– Work with families from various cultures, backgrounds, and languages

Qualifications include:

– Proof of a valid driver’s license and valid auto insurance

– Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Special Education, Early Childhood Education, Child and Family Studies (child development), Early Intervention, Deaf Education, Visual Disabilities, Special Education K-12, Elementary Education, Communication Disorders and Speech Language Pathology along with experience with young children and/or individuals with disabilities

OR

– For the following fields of study a minimum of 3 years-experience with children with disabilities (0-5 years old) and their families is also required: Bachelor of Science degree in Social Work, Nursing, Psychology, Education Administration or Sociology

BEST is growing fast and seeking students from Tennessee university programs interested in a challenging and educational internship or Capstone project experience with our team. Fields of study and skills of relevance include but aren’t limited to: Early Childhood Development, Child and Family Studies, Education Policy, Special Education, Occupational Therapy, Fundraising and Development, Marketing, Design and/or Social Media.
